Service Description

Sunday April 21st 12-4pm All ages and skill levels are welcome! Join Sarah Anderson for this one time hands on workshop, deep diving into the details of sgraffito! She will combine the use of two-dimensional imagery onto a three-dimensional surface. Learn new ways to incorporate these elements together with the use of color, texture, movement, and other elements and principles of art. Explore surface design techniques, how to use negative and positive space to create illusions of depth, working with the clay at various stages, underglaze tips, and more. We will begin with paper and clay tiles in the first half, and then we will graduate to working with the surfaces of thrown or hand built vessels during the second half of class. Participants are welcome to come prepared with leather hard pieces. Cone 5/6 clay only please. RRCC will provide extra tiles and simple leather hard porcelain mugs and plates for students to use (and keep!) during the workshop. RRCC will have carving tools for use, but students are encouraged to bring any clearly labelled tools from home. Attendees will leave their pieces for RRCC to fire. All clay, firing fees and glazes are included in the workshop. Work will take 2 weeks to fire, students are responsible for picking up work when ready.
